THE REAL JOY!

A gorgeous pink kameez, decorated with glittering spangles,
And a graceful flowery salwar with embroidered fringes,
Were the spectacular gift from my parents so dear,
For Diwali, the King of festivals, ushering joy and cheer!

Our house was dressed up like a Christmas tree,
The twinkling chandeliers, for the eyes, a treat!
The shimmering walls decked up with golden tassles,
Smiled so proudly at the peeping red and white roses!

My heart fluttered with enthusiasm overflowing,
Friends and relatives will join us for merry-making;
A splash of fire works with sweets and savories so delicious,
Make Diwali delightful and memories so precious!

The grand day dawned, and sparklers zoomed high;
Friends stood spellbound heaving a sigh;
Marvelling at my dress that shone so bright!
And rejoicing until dusk with joy and delight!!

Famished and scantily dressed, with eyes so wide,
There stood a boy, fixing his gaze at the fireworks beside!
When I filled his hands with delicacies and sparklers,
His eyes glowed with the light of million diamonds!

Every nerve of mine cherished the love of giving,
When I watched him dance with happiness so genuine!
This is REAL JOY! I muttered in wonder!
Nothing in the world can equal this splendour!

HEALTH: USES OF TAMARIND!

                           USES OF TAMARIND

One of the most widely distributed spices across the world , it is referred to as the Indian Date by many due to it's date like appearance. What makes it special is the acquired taste one needs to have to appreciate its unique tangy feel.

Though tamarind is known to be a slow - growing plant, the tree reaches a massive stature under favourable conditions and lives for ages and the foliage leaves remain evergreen too.

South Indian cooking includes tamarind in most of the prime dishes like, different types of sambar,  various tamarind rasams, chutneys and also summer cool drinks. Various home made recipes include this ingredient.

Medicinal properties of Tamarind:

The pulp of the tamarind fruit is rich in minerals and vitamins, for instance - calcium, phosphorus, iron, thiamine, riboflavin and is also a good source of niacin for that matter. The pulp of this tropical fruit is considered to be very effective for facilitating the digestion process. Tamarind provides remedy for biliousness and bile disorders, cures inflammations, soothes the sore throat with regular gargling, and makes one recover from alcoholic intoxication, to mention a few uses.

Tamarind leaves and flowers can be dried and boiled to treat swollen joints, sprains and boils. Based on its antiseptic properties, there are lotions and extracts made from the pulp of the tamarind, as home remedy to cure conjunctivitis. The fruit extracts are aslo useful in treatments of dysentery, jaundice, erysipelas, haemorrhoids and many such ailments. The pulp is believed to heal the senses and restore the patients suffering from paralysis.

Tamarind pulp can be heated with coconut oil, to come to a boil, filtered and applied to the hair. With constant use, the colour of the hair turns darker and the roots of the hair become stronger.

To make energy balls, extract a cup of thick pulp of tamarind by grinding the tamarind fruit, mix the pulp with equal amount of jaggery, and a pinch of salt. Take a thick plastic sheet, pour one tablespoon of this paste on the sheet, flatten it and make it to dry in the hot sun.Make several vadas out of the pulp. Dry them and store in a tin. The sweet and sour pancakes, when consumed give you a lot of instant energy when you feel exhausted. We can also add a tablespoon of rice flour to thicken the content, before making into vadas.

A refreshing Tamarind Sherbat is made thus:

One small raw mango.
Few pieces of ginger.
Two tablespoon of tamarind pulp.
Two teaspoon of lemon juice.
One teaspoon of ground roasted black pepper powder.
One teaspoon of ground roasted jeera seed powder.
One teaspoon of ground roasted cumin seed powder.
One tablespoon mint leaf paste.
Few curry leaves.
Few coriander leaves.
Few spoons of jaggery.
Salt according to taste.
Four glasses of water.

How to mix:

Shred the raw mango into small pieces. Grind the mango pieces with ginger, curry leaves and coriander leaves.

Boil the tamarind pulp with a cup of water to get rid of the raw smell. Cool the mixture.

Mix the rest of the ingredients and blend all the ingredients and pastes in a blender with the rest of the water for the uniform spread of the taste.

Can add ice cubes for the fly high spirit.

The exclusive soft drink cools your tensed nerves and provides instant relaxation.

This juice is an excellent alternative to the synthetic juices that are sold at shops.

My Daughter!

My daughter is my genuine possession,
Whom I cling to my heart with appreciation!
She is a phantom of delight,
When she gleams upon my sight;
A lovely apparition sent to be
My lifelong ornament!!
A valley of fragrance that enlivens my
"Still nothing is lost" temperament;
Her smile melts my worries and fears,
Gone with the wind are the tears.
She has grown up to be a charming lady,
Understanding, caring and prudent;
But I still engross myself in the quaint deeds,
That she had indulged,
When she was too young and independent.
Those are the feelings which I keep cherishing,
And value them more than the KOHINOOR DIAMOND!

ARRIVAL OF THE BABY!

ARRIVAL OF THE BABY
HOME IS TRANSFORMED INTO A MENAGERIE WITH A KALEIDOSCOPIC GARDEN!!

The young mother to be looks more pretty and vivacious than she was a bride on her wedding day. Pregnancy is the period, when a woman prepares mentally, to withdraw herself from the state of being pampered and comforted, to the new phase of pampering, comforting and upbringing her newborn, on her own.

Every nook and corner of the house is arranged, rearranged, decorated, all the almirahs, cupboards and closets filled with baby’s clothes, toys and other innumerable joys. A splash of colours, thrown at all places, makes certain that a rainbow had entered not only in the hearts of the parents, but also in each and every brick of the house.

A surge of new blood rejuvenates the worn out veins of the grand parents, to help their daughters/daughters-in-law, from the moment the baby is out of the mother’s womb. The excitement and fun cross the boundaries, to fill the home with upheavals of laughter!!

Ironically the grand parents chuckle in their minds, through this frenzied scenario. They very well know to have their little bit of sleep now, to prepare themselves for sleepless nights later.

The main and the major factor that the mother has to confront with immediately after childbirth is Breast Feeding. Three psychological factors govern the cycle of motherhood, starting with pregnancy.

Firstly, the mother devotes all attention to the new born. She throws less light on her better half. If both the husband and wife understand that this emotional bondage of the mother towards the infant should be on the upper scale and that the shifting of the attention is only temporary, then the ball is in the mother’s court. When most of the time, she is feeding the baby, the husband can help hr in the household chores, keeping frustrations and depressions at the bay. Still the boat sails on in the absence of elders, or helpers at home.

In the presence of grand parents, physical chores are made easy! Parents of this generation are deft enough to draw a line, for the interference of grand parents and make them understand that they are undoubtedly in want for moral support, in trying circumstances. But politely explain the changing trends in the growth and upbringing of the baby, and the total involvement that the parents should bestow on the infant. Proper communication eradicates all misunderstandings and reduces the gravity of the inflation of one’s ego.

When both the parents share the daily activities concerning the baby, such as changing nappies, bathing etc., the emotional bond between the husband and the wife increases sufficiently, to cross the gruelling situations at ease.

The second psychological phenomenon is the sex of the child.

Male or female, the joy is universal!! Let us regale!!
Little master or little mistress, they vanish all our distress!!
Cosmetics or dresses, an array of colour add splendour, to
Our little princesses!!
Jack-of-all-trades, the smart little princes,
Steal the show with unbeaten grace!!
Gentle as a swan and divine as an angel,
Girls embrace us with fondness and élan!!
The robust boys, naughty and down to earth,
Hug us tight to their bosom counting our ribs!!
We redeem them as very smart guys!!
Both eyes give equal vision to our lives!
Parents and we grandparents rejoice with the kids,
Savouring all the thrills!
Our dear ones cling to our inner selves with ease!!
Beware! Our relationship with the tiny tots should be free of frills!!

Both Lady Charming and Mr. Handsome, look on their parents as a role model, mentor and guide. Bringing up children with ease and poise is no easy task. A spout of mozzarella cheese lifts the taste of pizza to sky high. Likewise, a touch of individuality and a sense of humour, combined with discipline – discipline enclosed not in barbed wires, but bolstered by warmth and affection-these facts add as catalysts for the children to be in stream with the thoughts of their parents.

Proper channelling of ideas and feelings between the parents, before the birth of a newborn, should ensure an amicable and potential relationship, with their wards at all stages of life. If there is any difference of opinion, regarding the sex of the child, then the thought should be ruled out. Educated parents strive hard to get their child, be it a boy or a girl, good education and thereby a happy and contented future.

The third and the most important phenomenon, that a new mother should encounter with is breast-feeding.

Let us view the advantages of breast-feeding that throw a colossal light on the expressions of today’s mother.

Breast milk is ready for the baby when it is out of the womb. No need for any before hand preparations!!

Breast milk is available for the baby at all times of day and night.

Whether the baby is puny or chubby by nature, immature or fully grown, healthy or otherwise, mother’s milk is transformed in such a manner as to fully suit the needs of the baby. Though the truth is miraculous, the doctors prove the fact scientifically worldwide.

Breast-feed enhances the beauty of the mother. Breast-feeding burns the unwanted extra fat and helps the mother to return back to proper shape in no time. There is absolutely no need to go to the gym and work for long hours to shed that extra fat.

Mother’s milk safeguards the health of the baby. Baby is free of any disease. Most important and undisputable is the fact that the baby develops immunisation at a very faster pace. The breast milk is sterile and contains all the ingredients, to prevent any infection, from approaching and attacking the baby.

Mother’s milk is sometimes a Doctor, acts as first aid when necessary, and an all-time Nurse, nurturing the baby with proper proportions of iron, calcium, vitamins and the essential minerals. It is like a huge super market where you get all the commodities at a single haul.

Breast-feed enables the mother to develop healthy food intake before and after pregnancy. The mother becomes conscious that the food she plans for a day contains all the ingredients that augur to the health of the newborn.

this is a story told to kids of 1 year and above while feeding them. once upon a time, a baby fly was born and while it was flying, it forgot its name. (in tamil, the fly is called 'eeeee'.) so, it started asking one by one whoever it comes across while flying, 'what is my name?' first it asks kozhu kozhu kanre, a chubby calf. it replies 'i don't know. ask my mother.' then the fly goes to the mother cow and asks 'what is my name?' the cow replies, 'I don't know. Ask my owner.'. Likewise, for every line the story should be like a question and answer. the child would love to hear this story and finish its food while the story ends simultaneoulsy.

Marghazhi Vaibhavam Episode 10 Review By Indra

The colleagueship of G. Ramanathan on the Saxophone, Madurai S. balasubramanian and Ambur Padmanabhan, is resourceful, accomplished and very serene to the ears in the early morning! They blend and merge to give a wholesome treat! The skilled, practised hands owe all the pleasure for the viewers!

Jayalakshmi is the most shrewd asset to Vijay TV who knows, to cut one's coat according to one's cloth! Fantastic of her to display subdued and fluent introduction to the episodes, as she used to be very competent in dance shows on the contrary, where she used to be sky-high energetic and flamboyant in her style! The dark green sari with resplendent gold border, and the matching ear drops and a lovely chain of green pearls, added a lot of grace to her fair complexion. The bundle of jasmine flowers is a replica of her traditional attitude, much in favour of this month of Marghazhi! Her introductory lines to each concept is praiseworthy!

Gifted Swamigal Karunagarachariyar, who is very proficient in his ingenios discourses and very efficient in making us laugh for each and every line, chose to connect Sri. Andal with Science, in this title"Muppadhum Thappamal". Foremost, we are able to watch the programmes from home, at any time possible, as we can record the shows and watch leisurely! We can chose the shows of our choice and switch on to them and so on!

Swamigal points out that in the eighteenth pasuram Andal pleads " Nappinnai Nachiyar" to open the door and allow all the "Nonbu noorkum paavais" to have a darshan of the Lord and Goddess Mahalakshmi. The Goddess was playing ball with Krishna and slept off with ball in her hand! Andal sings HER glory, points out that it is already early morning, when cocks crow and the birds chirp, wherein Nappinnai should get down from the bed, and open the door for HER devotees!

Swamigal's reference to Sri. Periyavachchan Pillai(PVP) and His several "Vyakhyanams" based on the teachings and upanyasams of Sri Nampillai, was very descriptive. In His Thiruvaimozhi, Sri. PVP beautifully describes Nappinnai Nachchiyar makes a beautiful tinking sound with Her numerous bangles, while getting up from Her bed, and walk towards the door and opens with Her Lotus Hands! Swamigal humourously signifies, that the Goddess, could have used the switch beside Her bed, to open the door! But to the request of Sri. Andal, She  walks the distance and opens the door for the five lakh devotees! Perumal has the science and technology in Himself! No individual can boast of accomplishing, even a simple task, without His effort  and without the total surrender of our identity to merge with HIM! So many products are derived from milk through various process, which is akin to the truth that Thiruppavai and the Pasurams have a lot of connection with science and technology, because the final saying, "From HIM and unto HIM" is the answer!

In the contaxt "parampariyam" many participants had displayed a visual treat for the eyes and a delicious spread of different prasadams for the Lord Hayagrivar. The dishes made with pure devotion to the Lord, looked mouth watering and tempting!Even strawberry jam was made, indicating the view that Lord Krishna is fond of fruits, and with the idea in mind, that the dish should be made at home and should be liked by the children, the participant had opted to display the delicacy! Thoughtfully a participant made milk sweets as Lord Krishna loves milk and butter! Sweet Pongal, was done and displayed. So any new viewer would understand the traditional dishes made during this month!

Amritha Murali,is a well known artist, who sticks to tradition and had proved to the up coming youngsters, that only practice and practice alone can shape the voice, pattern of singing and imbibe the art from their respectable Gurus! She has a remarkable and immaculate credentials of being the student of the stalwarts, K.R. Kedaranathan and Smt. Meera Kedaranathan, the famed Vidhushis, Rama Ravi for vocal singing and Smt. Rukmini for learning Violin! Presently she is under the tutelage of Sri. P.S. Narayanaswamy!
Amritha Murali had bagged several awards in various Sabhas for both vocal and violin concerts, other than being an erudite in her studies and making her significant mark in the field of academics also!

The Viruththam in Hamsanandhi, proved the fact that she is the emerging positive energy for all the young musicians, and a pot of gold for music lovers, who can be rest assured that Carnatic music is blooming from a sapling to a huge tree with wide horizons  of learning and numerous branches of young talents, who are indeed the connoiseurs of the vast empire that is "Carnatic Music"!

Marghazhi Vaibhavam Episode 9 Review by Indra

Today Jayalakshmi is taking us to Srivilliputhur to hear S. Ramanathan playing"Thoomani madathu" in his saxophone! Jayalakshmi is dressed in a traditional silk sari with Gopuram border! The colour is green combined with a lighter shade, which adds more charm to both the sari and the young lady! Ameer Kalyani is scintillating, as the atmosphere, with people around, singing with the Saxophone! The temple jewels that Jayalakshmi is wearing look traditional and very apt for the Vaibhavam!

From literally translating the meaning of the Pasuram, Sri. U.Ve. Karunagarachariar Swamigal choses a topic of importance from the pasuram, that connects Andal with the Perumal and thereby connecting the viewers with both Perumal and Thayar! " Andalum Thiruvadiyum" signifies the attachment Sri. Andal gives to the FEET of the LORD, more than anything else. She patronizes the Lord in her pasurams, praising HIM as "Paramanadi padi" and "Potramaraiyadiye Potri", meaning we should worship only the Golden FEET of the LORD, as the FEET is passionate, is full of love, consists all the love and affection for HIS devotees and contains the fragrance and softness of the Lotus flower, which will cool our wandering minds and surrender unto HIM!

Swamigal is never at a loss of words, and the speed with which he conveys several thoughts for the single word"Thiruvadi" is simply amazing! The scholar he is, we are fortunate and blessed to imbibe his authentic explanations and follow them with stauch devotion! Andal, as HER name depicts conquering the LORD, conquering us and the whole of the universe, with HER bhakthi and the surpassing love for HIM! In the first pasuram Andal praises the Lord as ""Kar menich Chengan",'Kadir madhiyam pol mughathan" and "Narayanane", describing the beauty and majesty of the LORD! But she emphasizes that we focus our minds and eyes to HIS FEET only, unto where we should surrender and get rid of our sins! Swamigal concludes by wishing us joy and happiness, through the blessings of Andal! " Andal Thiruvadigale Charanam"!

Parampariya Illams(houses) are built of three materials, which are "Aral, sunnambu and kaarai", in Tamil! With very high ceilings and lots of steep steps at the entrance, most of the traditional houses are still strong and looking good! It is a surprise that some houses are two hundred years old, and not built of concrete, but still maintain the majestic look, that the owners of the houses, do not want to make any changes in the construction!

Parampariya games, such as "Pallankuzhi, Dhayakkattai and Pandi" evoke a lot of physical exercise and mental stamina, as the games need a lot of concentration and patience. The children of yester years are hence, strong in physique, smart in thinking and logical in planning! The interaction between each other, while playing the games, mould the minds to be cooperative with each other and learn from one another!

The captivating games and the ship loads of minute details and places of interest, provide us a genuine peep into the past, from where we have emanated! The appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of our Country!

Sangeetha Sivakumar, "The upholder of GNB Bani" is a singer par excellence! The command she has over the swaras and the gamakas is simply astounding! Her voice being soft and mellifluous, with the sweetness of a nectar-filled flower, had been enchanting a huge crowd of viewers for the past twenty years! The experience of singing through her meritorious years had brought her several prestigious accolades and a lot of charismatic attraction among the young and budding artists, to whom she is a super music teacher of aplomb and continued glory! It is no surprise that the senior most, Sri. Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, had sat throughout her performance, ten years back, and applauded her for the splendid concert and most important, for the rare special "Padam" in Kambhoji! That is very fortunate of her and a great blessing from the "Great Semmangudi Iyer"!

"Karpooram Narumo" in Kamas took us to another world of bliss and happiness! Sangeetha had delighted us with her seasoned singing. She is still the matchless Rani until now, in the field of Carnatic music!

Marghazhi Vaibhavam Episode 8 Review By Indra

With stylish lip reading, yet clear diction by Sweet Jayalakshmi, marked the ninth day of Marghazhi festival. The Sandal coloured sari and the maroon blouse was as a whole treat for the eyes! She looked particularly very beautiful today!

In Dhinanthorum Thiruppavai, G. Ramanathan rendered the soul touching pasuram in neat Dhanyasi, in his Saxophone! He is able to actually sing through Saxophone, as never find the difference between vocal singing and his recital through this melodious instrument!

In " Muppadhum thappamal" Sri. U. Ve. Karunagarachariar's interaction with us was like the smooth flow of Kuttralam Falls. He has so many thoughts in mind even for a single line. He is able to give many down to earth examples, for any litener to understand instantly! He is the most gifted Swami. While comparing the Bhakthi of five lakhs of Gopikas in ratio with only one Andal, he expresses with much ease, the might and power of Andal's bhakthi, that is beyond comparison and that has no boundaries! She herself cannot gauge her own level of bhakthi, affection and ultimate surrender for the Lotus Feet of the Lord! Swamigal rightly chose the punch dialogue of Rajnikant "Naan oru dhadavai sonnal nooru dhadavai sonna madhiri", to express the intensity of the bhakthi of the Thaayar, as we are more in touch and much familiar with Rajnikant's dialogues, rather than Andal's pasurams and the inner meaning of the divine lines! The lighter vein of the Swamigal, makes anybody learn the truth of life just by focussing our attention in total surrender at HIS FEET!

Swami's vivid and very interesting description of "Padhuka Sahasram" Stotram defined by Srimadh Vedantha Desikar, was very engrossing and compassionate. The Lord presents Himself in all the diamonds of the Padukas, and endless millions of HIS "Bimbams" can be seen By Desikar swamigal!

Sri. Naradhar's curiosity to know about the huge number of wives of Lord Krishna, the minute details about "Rappaththu Ursavam", "Adhyayana Ursavam", "Araiyar Ursavam" and the simple words that the Swamigal used to describe the affection of Andal towards Her Lord , had made this episode so special and very interesting! We do not want to miss even a minute of the Swamigal's discourse!

The finest detail that Sri Andal Is the "Patta Maghishi" of Sri RangaMannar at Srivilliputhur and that She is surrounded by Ubhaya Perumal, and stands Supreme as the Goddess of the temple at Srivilliputhur is the most adorable information! This is in contrary to all the temples, where The Supreme Perumal is enshrined with Thaayars! As we are hearing this detail from the Swamigal, we feel the goose pimples on ourselves, indicating the ecstatic feeling, that we have undergone!

Like" News in a Nut-shell" which is always more interesting, the tit-bits, in this "Marghazhi Vaibhavam" episodes, the Team never have failed to enthrall the viewers with the most unexpected and fascinating details of all the celebrations, associated with the Vaibhavam!

The sincerity and love for the beautiful "Jadai" that the lady does for Andal Thayar, shows her immense devotion for Sri. Andal! Seeing the art, with the base from plantain tree and the flowers that form a beautiful design, we envy the person who is so fortunate to serve the Goddess of splendor! The photos taken very closely, display not only the entire design of the "Jadai" but also the devout expression in the eyes of the devotee, who considers her profession as the highest of dignity and affection! The flowers vary according to the seasons is a "kosuru" detail of interest!

Endless rhyming verses of "karai" from Jayalakshmi was pure "Sarkkarai" to our ears in the "Vaigarai" hours of Marghazhi!

Both Akkarai S. Subhalakshmi and Akkarai S. Sornalatha are loaded with multi talents of being both Violinista and Vocalists! When they are able to show explicit talents in both the competitive fileds, it is imminent that they are trained so vigourously by their Father, S. Swaminathan initially! Both of them started playing Violin and also singing from 1997 onwards! The poignant experience of praise by a rasika in the 1998 concert, is another feather of merit in their cap! Both of them look very pleasant and spoke so homely and fluently about their experience! They expessed their gratitude towards Tavil Vidwan Palanivel for appreciating and encouraging them! We viewers felt the feeling of identifying ourselves with the sisters instantly, for their simlicity!

The sisters had a final sweep over us with their unique kriti in ragam Shanmughapriya, literally bringing down the "Vadivelan" from His Abode to the close vicinity of the sisters! The poetic and meaningful lyrics and the melody were outstanding! " Velai padivadhu nam velai! Namadhu vinaiyellam theerppathu Kumaranin velai(Vel)"!! The meanings are extraordinary!

Yet another day, full of very interesting snippets and very elaborate explanations, which we should keep in mind permanently!

Marghazhi Vaibhavam Episode 7 Review by Indra

If we are able to enjoy all the happenings in the month of Marghazhi, from any corner of our house, we can applaud Vijay TV for accomplishing this impossible task with a positive attitude! Be it music, temples, discourses, the scores of festivals or any programme of spiritual importance, all are redolent with the sweet fragrance named" Innovative and Intimate"!

Jayalakshmi shows her prowess in also conducting the shows with a sweet charm of her own, proving that she is not only a good dancer but a pretty "Anchor Master" also. Her poetic words and phrases give a lot of inspiration to continue following the whole episode with undivided interest! She looked beautiful in that dark coloured sari with all components matching, to suit her moods and bring happiness to viewers alike!

"Keese keesendrengu" in Saxsophone in Bhairavi Ragam sounded heavenly, played by Ramanathan and group in front of the temple! That gives more sanctity to the pasuram and the player!

Swami Karunagarachariar throws abundant fun in the pasuram, by explaining the admiration Andal has for nature, for the chirping of birds and the happiness we derive out of those pleasant noise. She compares the sound of the birds to unbearable noise for one of her friends, as she refuses to get out of her sleep and join with Andal for "Paavai Vratham".Swamy referred to sixth and seventh pasuram, as the lines depicting the mellifluous sounds of birds and animals, all chanting the nama of the Lord!In villages in earlier days, and even now, we can hear the constant and loud chirping of the birds and cocks, that gives instant awakening, to get going with our daily chores, starting with the chanting of slokas and mantras! We are not fortunate enough to hear the same in the city, where the bounty of nature had totally diminished! Swamigal beautifully symbolizes the ardent devotee of nature in Andal, and the kind words she uses to awaken her friends in the pasurams th to fifteeth, in order to praise the Lord and recieve all the benefits of life from HIM!

In "Kodhai pirandha oor Srivilliputhur", milk flows in abundance due to plenty of cow herds, that flank the Lord to pour out milk for HIM! Many of us may not be knowing that the milk sweet "Palkhova" is the dominating delicacy of Srivilliputhur and vice versa! It was delightful to see people making palkhova in huge "Kadais" in the hygienic manner and conducive atmosphere! The details that the sweet is disposed by the end of the day, and that nothing is carried over for the next day, is very satisfying to note and very new for many of us! That is where VIJAY TEAM stands ahead of the rest! "Maattri yosi" is synonymous of them as a whole!

Both the "Parampariya Illams" took the viewers to their houses, and we felt the sanctity of the buidings which were more than one hundred and fifty years old. Many generations had lived and enjoyed the nearness of their forefathers in every nook and corner of the houses! The second house, whose walls were built of sand, still looks magnanimous with a cool atmosphere inside! The simple technology, the aura of simlicity and the immense satisfaction was rightly, passed on to the viewers and we really felt ecstatic!

Mambalam sisters, Vijayalakshmi and Chitra had been singing for so many years, blending both their voices into a single string of gentle melody! Being the daughters of famed Kanjira Vidwan, K.S. Rangachari, they had trained their voice through strict, disciplined and long hours of practice to provide unlimited melody to the ears of the viewers! That they were appreciated by the popular critic"Subbudu" is very natural and well deserved! The accolades that they enjoyed from Music Academy  for singing the "ragam, tanam and pallavi" in the rare ragam Vivadhi is a Kohinoor diamond in their crown of achievement! Many viewers had heard the "ragam, tanam and pallavi" in the ragam Vivadhi!

"Aazhi mazhaikkanna" in Varali was soul stirring! We wish a very long meritorious years of music and accomplishments for the Mambalam sisters!

Marghazhi Vaibhavam Episode 6 Review by Indra

Slim Jayalakshmi, in deep pink has a magical touch with her voice, appearance and the way she delivers the components of the daily "Marghazhi Vaibhavam". Our interest towards this informative, entertaining and spiritual show is increasing day by day, in leaps and bounds!

Ramanathan and group played " Mayanai mannu vadamadurai mayinthanai" in the most pleasing notes! That sounds simply wonderful in the early morning! The celebrations on Vijay TV reverberate at our homes also!

Velukkudi Swamigal, insisted the importance of chanting the thirty pasurams defined by Andal for the welfare of human beings! Sri. Andal identifies Herself with her "Adiyars" before starting the "nonbu" , in order to recieve the patronisation of the Lord and surrender under His Lotus Feet! After explaining the prospects of the renowned Nonbu and the benefits of following the simple rituals of the "Vratham",Andal explains to her Adiyars about  reaping so many benefits of life, from worshipping the Lord, chanting His name, all the time and reducing all the known and unknown bad deeds that we had committed and been doing in our life time! Sri. Andal is ready to stop at the entrance of each of her devotee, beg them to join her in her "Vratham", perform the chanting of the Lord, and attaining immense benefits in life!

In the next fifteen Pasurams, Sri Andal is willingly going from door to door, singing the praise of the Lord and waking up her friends in the early hours of the day, for worshipping HIM and paying obeisance to the Grace of the Lord Krishna! Swamigal very beautifully told, that Sri Andal is in the midst of heavy rain(water-Neer), standing in pools of milk(Paal), striving to attain the Lord's(Maal) blessings! The place is rich with water and milk, as it is heavily raining and milk is abundantly pouring from the lap of the cows for the Lord! the sanctity of the pasuram is beautifully described by the swamigal!

We really enjoyed seeing the first magnificent  120 year old house, with finely decorated shining wooden doors and a lot of very beautiful pieces of interest in the admirable large rooms and hallways! The owner of the place enhanced our interest with a list of celebrities who had visited and graced their presence in this huge mansion, such as the then Chief Ministeer Annadurai, Sir RajaGopalachari etc!

The second house more than 200 years old, was mostly distortedd and worn out, but it had been a spiritual place where most of the ladies took part in bhajans, spiritual happenings and other religious activities, organised and managed by women alone!! The mention of "Mu. Kodhai Nayagi Ammal" and her dedication to womanhood, was an added speciality!

Young and beautiful Vijayalakshmi Subramanian, is a boon to the carnatic music society. She sings with the same ease as she fluently shared her commendable meritorious experiences, where she recieved accolades for singing a difficult pallavi in both ragas, Amritavarshini and Ananda Bhairavi, set to a difficult Sankeerna Nadai. Her singing was breath taking!

A huge tribute and huge cups of praise for the whole team of the family of Star Vijay!

Marghazhi Vaibhavam Episode 4 Review by Indra

Pleasing Jayalakshmi in blue and gold, started today's Vaibhavam in her soft, modulated voice! Her's is a neat presentation with perfect diction and totally involved expression, that we viewers gain more interest in the happenings! I usually think she had remarkable training from Revathi Sankkaran Madam!

Followed by was Ramanathan's sruthi aligned pasuram, with his group! Rather than playing we can say, he is singing with his instrument. In the early morning, it is so pleasant to our ears and very absorbing!

More than Sarkkarai pongal and Ven pongal prasadam, Velukkudi Swamigal's explanation of the fourth pasuram "Aazhi Mazhakk Kanna", highlighting the values and comcepts that should be followed in our daily basis of life, ain spite of all odds and good times, is the greatest " Maha Prasadam" that we are blessed with!

Giving avivid account of Sri Ramanuja, HIS birth, nakshatra and month, his devotion towards HIS Acharyals and Azhwars, Swamigal explained that Sri. Andal had put together , in her simple pasurams, combining the teachings of Sri. Ramanuja, Azhwars and Acharyas, that our actions and thoughts should be with the LORD alone! Sri. Andal is calling the rain God, to take out the last drop of the ocean and pour from the sky as from the Lord's Chakra, in a torrential storm! She defines that all Devathas will help the Paavais to perform the Vratham without any hindrance. Andal and her counterparts, personify themselves as dark as the LORD HIMSELF!

Swamigal stressed that we belong to "Paramathma" alone. All of us are "Jeevathma" who should be around HIM, think of HIM only and be part of HIM!

After " Muppadhum Thappame", Parampariyam followed!

The huge, varied processes of making a host of very beautiful"Vilakku", in different shapes and splendid forms, were just a feast for the eyes and minds. The most spiritual profession is the making of the "Puradhana" lamps, that give light and happiness to a lot of homes and hearts! The clay for making the exclusive lamps is available only at Nachchiyar Kovil Township, near Kumbakonam! Not anywhere in the whole of Asia. The processes, the families that indulge in making these "Vilakkus" are so proud of their art and are so pious about their family profession, which they delegate, they feel much nearer to the God! " Karanai, kaal padi, thattu, arai padi" are some of the terms that we have never come across! The whole procedure was amazing and very satisfying to watch! The producta are reaching many temples, marriage halls, homes aand other religious places!

Smt. Sudha Raghunathan's disciple Deepika, made a gracious presence to relate her experiences of Marghazhi festival, from a very early age! She had been a part and parcel, with her Guru for the past six years in this festival. She had recieved the title "Isai Chudar" from Karthik Fine Arts last year, and on the same day, her Guru, Smt. Sudha Raghunathan was conferred the title "Tamil Isai Vendar" from the same Sabha! Astounding to hear!

Already a favourite of many Rasikas, Deepika had made a mark in our hearts by singing the Bhajan "Hari Smarana" in her very sweet and sonorous voice!

Vijay TV takes care that even the advertisers, sponsors and co-sponsors, make their shows brilliant, romantic and spiritual through their "A class apart" from the rest approach! Though very challenging Vijay TV is able to accomplish, year after year and day after day, with renewed energy and creativity!

Marghazhi Vaibhavam Episode 3 Review by Indra

Selvi. Jayalakshmi needs a huge praise first of all, for her immaculate dressing sense, pleasing smile, expression in the eyes and the wonderful modulation of her voice! She is doing a commendable and appreciative job by compering the show and adding a lot of  charm, thereby!
Ramanathan and group sang the third pasuram"Oonghi ulagalantha" on Saxophone, Violin and Mridangam with such a dedication and absolute melody!

In the sub-title " Muppadhum thappamae", Velukkudi Swamigal, in his lucid style adhered Andal as both "Choodik koduththaal" and "Paamalai paadikk kodutha!al", making the third pasuram"Ongi ulagalandha", much easier and simpler for the viewers! In emphasizing Andal's goodwill towards the universe to lead the righteous path to attain Lord's Feet, Swamigal points out that she practised only Bhathi and Bhakthi margam towards the Lord. She preaches her near and dear to think, talk and do any action to and for HIM only! In all her thirty pasurams, the simple message that we should practice Bhakthi Margam only, is the "Divyamudham" that Andal predicts for HIS followers! The Vedas in the Upanishads of Geethai and"Kotha Upanishad" teach us the only path, which is total patronage and discipline towards GOD, and following the foot steps, that HE had already carved for us!

Swamigal's fluency in rendering his thoughts made us viewers spellbound to the core!

Revathi Sankaran, being a multi-faceted personality, ruled the Vaibhavam by introducing the audience to mouth-watering and brain-tickling, tasty "Divyamudham", prepared by various participants. The whole place was like the "Madappalli" of a temple where there will be always a  delicious array of the Prasadams of Perumal! Be it, "Thiruvadhiraikkali", Eruseri, "Uppuma Kozhukattai"(Pidi, as corrected by Revathi ma'm), be it, akkara vadisil, mudakkaththan dosai, Poli, or vadaimaalai, Revathi Sankaran, being a culinary expert, was ready to correct everybody in their preparation and the small, interesting details attached with each and every dish! She even asked a participant, as to what will be the benefits of Mudakkaththan keerai, which was used to make the dosai! No doubt, the whole programme was lively and very homely!

After have the delicacies, Saindhavi, had engaged the viewers with her happening experiences, which were very absorbing to hear. It was laudable to hear that she receieved her first prize for carnatic singing from Yuva Kala Bharathi in the year 2009! The emotional experiences that she shared in her sweet voice, was involving us to enter her frame of mind, and enjoy the experience with her. Gifted with the most enviable voice, she sang"Karunai Deivame" so beautifully. No wonder anybody will fall hypnotised hearing her sing "Aasai mugham" or "Chinnanchiru kiliye"! She is firm and optimistic, that anybody will relish her cooking as well with the same fervour and enthusiasm! Both a great established singer and also a coveted cuisine expert, she is bent on reaching great heights in her achievement!

With the Kaleidoscopic events of Vijay TV, we, the viewers, are looking forward for the arrival of Vijay tomorrow!

Marghazhi Vaibhavam Episode 2 Review by INdra

Devoted ladies in "Madisar" standing at the back of the Saxophone performance and enjoying the vibrating pasuram of the second  day of Marghazhi is absolutely divine and evoking a lot of mental satisfaction for the viewers! The atmosphere, the music and the unflinched devotion for the Lord is infectious and mesmerising! Thanks to Vijay TV for taking us to another abode of endless joy and dedication to the Lord! Thanks again for the sponsors, GRT Jewellers and City Union Bank!

Even for a toddler or a teenager, other than the regular fans of the Swamigal, his simple and down to earth explanation holds the lynchpin of this well choreographed programme!

Starting from the Bhakthi of Periazhwar towards the Lord, he personifies Andal as one of the twelve Azhwars, who imbibed all the resources of the Azhwars as a whole and is destined to impart all the values fully to the Universe, through her Pasurams not single handedly, but with her unfailing friends(Paavaigal), who are staunch followers of the Lord in every sense of the word!

Resources and the huge property of the Azhwars are not in the form of money and land, but a skyfull of devotion, determination and "binding their emotions, love and affection to the core" for the Lord and towards the Lord only! Swamigal had rightly described this interaction of the Azhwars with the Lord as the experience that will happen in Heaven only!

Velukkudi Swamigal started with Kodha Sthuthi and explained the lines of the Pasuram" Vaiyaththu Vaazhveergal" in such a simple manner, as any body will follow with ease and instantly practise the inner meaning of the Pasuram with such belief! We shed all the worldly pleasures during this " Nonbu" and think of the Lord and HIM only to lead a pious, truthful, paying obeisance to the words of the elders, practicing only righteous actions and finally raching the FEET of the LORD!

Sculpting is part and parcel of our rich cultural heritage! There are a lot of difficult procedures before we see the glistening statues of the Gods and Goddesses in their splendour! Stage by stage the untiring fingers, chistle, mould, place in castings, and unrelently reach for the final product, which is flawless and that is par excellence and that make all Indians proud of their artistic enormity!

Budding young, very talented, beautiful vocalist K. Gayathri, disciple of Suguna Purushothaman, rightly and very interestingly pictured the " Prabhatha Sangeetham", it's values and virtues, displaying her emotional feelings, that was a treat for the viewers! Her ablutions for her Guru was remarkable!

Finally the piece of excellence"Niraimathi" in Hamsanandhi, touched our hearts and minds for the sweet and neat rendering by graceful Gayathri.

Thanks again Jayalakshmi, for your elegant presence and good diction!

Marghazhi Vaibhavam 2013 January on Vijay TV! Review by INDRA

The first pasuram of Thiruppavai by Ramanathan and group on the Saxophone was blissful in the early morning on Sunday! We felt there was a celebration at home with lots of fanfare and many people around! Sri Velukkudi Swamigal, the scholar par excellence had given a thought provoking description of the importance of the month of Marghazhi. He emphatically pointed out the value of totally surrendering ourselves unto the feet of the Lord, forgetting everything else! Like the flow of a river, like a sage, Swamigal's every word is a gem of thought, that should be treasured! He initiated marghazhi vaibhavam with a vivid description about the birth of Andal Thayar to Periazhwar. The smooth flow of Swamigal's details of the importance of Lord's month Marghazhi, and the ddedication with which Sri. Andal conducted "Paavai Nonbu" with so many other devotees and friends of the Goddess, to attain the love and affection of the Lord, was a lecture par excellence!

Revathi Sankaran ma'm was looking at her best attire in deep majenta, presenting herself very lovely as usual! We went with her to see the beautiful kolams, heard her interaction with people, with a band of Nadhaswaram, and the poised elephant at the entrance of the temple, following the ladies in splendour! The vaild comments of Revathi ma'am regarding the kolam during this month, the goodness of placing the pumpkin flower in the middle of the kolam and also the differentiation between male and female flower, shows her intelligence and the readiness to impart, all that she had learnt to others as well! Kudos to her enterprising nature!

Kolam by Chitra was very symmetrical, very beautiful and unimaginable! Thanks to Revathi madam for introduicng the best of creative kolams to the viewers! Her comments were very precious, both to the participants and viewers!

With her charismatic and infectious smile, Nithyashree gave us a visual treat of a very high calibre, that we have been experiencing all these years. Her poignant and loving detail of her grand mother, the way her grand mother showered her affection, by attending the concert, immediately after she was operated on her eyes, was stunning to hear! It was like a gentle breeze flowing, when Nithyashree sang the Pasuram. Her experiences, frankly shared was commendable! we are the most fortunate!

We will travel with Revathi Sankaran and the rest of the vivacious team of Star Vijay, to explore the beauty and the eminence of the month of Marghazhi throughout!

Photography, choreography, and compering was out of the ordinary as predicted! Vijay TV has more of intelligence to stand out from the rest!

Jayalakshmi had proved herself to be an eminent dancer! She is a very beautiful looking Anchor also! The programme was more charming because of her presence throughout!

NASA was getting ready to launch a very important space shuttle. The scientists and engineers checked and double checked everything to make sure that things are fine.  However, on the day of the launch, something seemed to be wrong. The rocket made all sorts of noise but never took off even an inch from the ground. The engineers were puzzled because they could not figure out the problem.

Finally, Manjit, a Sardar offered to help. The NASA scientists were desperate by that time and agreed to do anything.

'Tilt the rocket 45 degrees to the right,' said Manjit in a serious voice. The engineers were puzzled but did it anyway.

'Bring it back to vertical position, the Manjit added. The engineers did.

'Now start the engines,' instructed Manjit. The rocket took off and flew into space. Everybody thanked and congratulated Manjit and asked him how he knew what to do.

COMPUTER COMMANDS COMING ALIVE! From Mr. COBOL

We INPUT our intelligence, memory power and perseverance.
For execution of PROGRAMS testing our endurance!
The OUTPUT has emerged in a split of a micro-second,
Revealing the superiority of a tiny SILICON CHIP
Block, whose Might we apprehend.
We get caught in LOOPS as in whirlpools!
But SUBROUTINE welcomes us, to reap a lot of RETURNS.
NETWORKS are the well-wishers of the computers,
The world over and never let loose their children to scatter ever!
If we wish to match these paramount personalities,
Then we should rise to the top of the HIERARCHY,
Or else, we can ANALYSE, design and implement computer realities.
COPYING is prohibited in exam halls!
Machines never object to copying and RENAMING
It’s FILES, by and large!
COMMANDS executed with compliance and grace
Nevertheless, it is a herculean task we face!
To disqualify the SYSTAX ERRORS those emerge in haste!
Like Savior, like God came forth the people of CODASYL,
To lend a helping hand for people in BUSINESS and LAYMEN still!
Those who boycotted English grammar at school,
Will find it a problem to interact with COBOL’s rules!!
PARAGRAPHS and STATEMENTS, formed by VERBS and CLAUSES,
Are dynamic in nature and organize themselves in PROCEDURES!
To not beat around the bush to rectify the countless errors!
At our beck and call are the respected FULL-STOPS,
That march forth to fight back the blunders of our PACKAGE of NON-DOCUMENT files!!
UNIX and SHELL variables, C and C++, CLIPPER, JAVA, SQL, ORACLE, Web Design, Database 4GL Tools and HTML Type Screens, do not link well with COBOL Language!!
Increased development of Y2K still maintains COBOL as the traditional Power House for business applications!!
Which Language can overrule the simple manipulation of textual data as COBOL does? COBOL grows. There is no Salvage!

CAN YOU HEAR ME PLEASE!!!!!!

CAN YOU HEAR ME PLEASE

Contrary to my age and inability, I jump and leap up the stairs with all my Herculean efforts,
To have a quick peep into my mother’s room with a bleeding heart and a head full of compressed torments!! Oh it hurts!!!
For years in succession, I have been watching, gulping down and constantly on tenterhooks,
The untold physical sufferings and sea of troubles that she is enduring .Not a drop of water flows down my throat!

My heart brims with content and a thousand beams lit up my face. My Mom will survive another day. She looks Fine!!
While talking loudly to her in the ear, I carry on with all my daily chores with a vivacity never undermined!
Mom can never speak nor turn a finger on her own. What matters! She is much alive yet another day. My gain!
She has become a baby. Through endless talking, singing, caressing, laughing and crying, the day goes off with full sunshine!!

Quintessence of good nature, pleasing manners and above all her bosom full of love, for us, she was the most unpretentious Mother!!
A faint mental indisposition slowly dragged her into the dismal abyss, the most dreaded Dementia which sucks away all together,
The resources of the brain, gradually, in a methodical manner, so rudely so treacherously, under our watchful eyes and careful scrutiny!! A TREMOR!!
With umpteen hands and hearts, flowing with help in abundance, I tried to save her from the silent killer! Impossible, I cried louder and louder!!

Can you save her from forgetting the daily chores? Can you save her from forgetting the names of her beloved ones?
Can you save her from forgetting to eat, drink, read, write, talk and smile on her own?” NO". I kept chanting to myself" Yesterday she was better". Oh silence!!
I am losing my Mom day by day, to that Demon, with my hands chained. My body shudders and goes numb at hearing my inner voice. Plagued with bitterness!!
I wring my hands, weep and gnash my teeth, bathe in tears just to watch my Mom transforming herself into a newborn babe. Let bygones be bygones!!

To keep the remaining memory alive, Dementia calls for continuous interaction with many more new faces and new voices other than the familiar and stereotyped!
Hiding my despair, I used to engage in non-stop ripples of laughter, fresh smiles, a very sunny and bright atmosphere and a galaxy full of attractive posters,
which might catch my Mom's eyes!!
Any visitor is a Godsend delight! The piling odd jobs cause nightmares, but still I keep looking at the door for a guest, who is indeed a welcome guide!!
If not I, somebody may open her eyes, which remain closed for endless hours! From today, Ma is not able to open her eyes even!! I keep gaping at her with my mouth wide!!
A Drought hit land, will regain the milk and honey when the showers make magic. But Mom's bountiful stocks of her brain had withered once and for all!
The paucity for movement, speech and all the other innumerable nuggets of expressions had become permanent. A hunchback had formed for my Dad, who was standing tall!
The Doctor's medicines, prescribed with the utmost concern, preponderance and prudence, worked wonders during unimaginable dire situations,
bringing back the Elixir Of Life to my Mom's fall!
A Fine -Tuned lady, she was, my Mother never gained back the forgotten conversations, or the memories of her house and her near ones!! "Please call me by my name Ma. Do not push yourself to the

wall".

But we did not let go the days as plain as a pikestaff!! With profound help from stretched out hands, Dad and myself strained our every nerve with verve and vigor.
We took Mom out to breathe the fresh air, to capture lots of sunshine and meet many more new smiling faces. Mother could neither respond nor move an eyelid. But her inner self was still alive. That

domain, "The Towering and Overpowering Dementia" still did not conquer!!
Transferring my Mom into a wheel chair, we kept strolling her into several parts of the house the entire time keeping her connected with music and rapid loud conversations. My hands were always on her,

though my thoughts wandered, in search of an Oasis for my Mother!
Happiest were the days, when I had always cuddled, teased, talked incessantly, questioned, answered, hugged her close for hours and begged her to come back to normal. Contrary to her dwindling

memory, Mom and I cherished a rapport that will last forever!!

Before the PHANTOM was looming large, and my Mom was losing her radiance, God had descended on our minds to warn us of the danger murking large with numerous poisonous fangs!!
But ALAS! Beyond our myriad sincere pains, my Mom got herself entangled in the most complex whirlpool, unknowingly going through a very smooth transition from the very best to the worst of

times!!
Mom had lived and experienced a lot of greener pastures, and fully basked under the unlimited affectionate showers of her husband, my Dad, who had made a mark in the map of Heaven, with his snow

-white smiles!
Still, of all the hazards and shortfalls, Mom lived a life cascaded with love and protection, from her children and grand children. God was indeed cruel to her. He inflicted daggers in my heart by making

me watch the mortifying transition, my flesh corroded with appalling stings!!

Mother was bedridden for a span of seven years and passed away in January 2010. My INTENTION is to ward off the danger some of your Moms may go through.
My Mother was 79 and I am 54, yet the search for her lap full of warmth and passion is never ending. Loved ones clutch my hands with the assurance of the ROCK of Gibraltar, to come out of the groove.
Dementia the rival unsurpassed, had brought in, Seizures, Pneumonia, Hypo-Glycaemia, Parkinson's, Hallucinations and a battalion of other disorders, for my Mother, even the names unheard of! TRUE!!!
I REQUEST YOU "THE YOUNGER GENERATION" NOT TO LOSE YOUR MOM AS I LOST! WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS AND INCOHERENT SPEECH ARE THE FOREMOST CULPRITS FOR SURE!!

I have a few thoughts about our strong bonding with none other than the "Official Partner" in our life. THE GREEN TEA!! Socialization eradicates loneliness. Green Tea stimulates the mind for productive

interaction and unconfused state of mind! We can make a start!!
Succulent and exotic, the brewing flavor invites you to gulp down the aromatic liquid and instantly become ecstatic!! The Black Mockery, The Enormous Red Carpet of Treachery and The Yellow Pangs

Of Instability slowly disappear, making us smarter!!
The All Pervading Blue Patches of Suppressions and Depressions that form the Main Database for the most uninvited ailment Dementia alias Departure From Normal Life will be scurried fast from our

Cerebrum and Cerebellum and flushed into the gutter with a startle!!
The focused beginning will enable us to rebuild the broken castles and breakthrough all hassles to emerge as the strongest minded citizens. True experiences from my heart!!

Old age can still be as fresh as a daisy, when we do not cocoon ourselves into solitude. Shunning away the communication from our closest to our bosom, when they are away from us.
Nothing is lost. Physical and mental disabilities are part and parcel of the package that we have brought with us, when we were born into this world. On our health they should not have a crush!!
Distances are shortened by technological inventions. Why cannot we swim with the tide, take a favorable turn and reap a good harvest? Acquaintances strengthen the bonds of harmony. Let us fight to

the finish!!
When the wind and weather permits, let us sail to safety, setting an example for the youngsters by proving that “OUR MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH ARE IN A FLOURISH"!!

Try these simple diversions to bring back the smiles on your face

8. Why not try finding out a lost thing. Maybe you will get it back. Shifting to other jobs for a change, does a lot of difference in the mental make-up.

9. The sea is endless and fathomless. The waves are many, unstoppable and flourishing. A waterfall, a flowing river or the beach brings us the child's attitude in us. Feel the joy.

10. A favourite sport does the herculean difference in a matter of minutes. Brushing aside the minions of mental hitches, let us pursue the most loved hobby or sport for a while. Gone are the unforseen threats. Life is still a bet. But full of ASSETS!!
